Wuensche's Appendix - Dave Noyze 2007
A 12 minute mono sound piece in 25 parts, which can be played in any order, exploring "the edge of chaos" and "order from chaos via complexity" with 5 neighbour complex Cellular Automata rules from (Wuensche 1997). The Cellular Automata rules are outputing each cell from the evolution on a row by row basis, so its a sort of pulse code modulation, because its outputing min/max sample values depending on whether the cell is 0 or 1. The spacetime plot is shown for each part. Click anywhere on the spacetime images to access the soundfile for that particular rule. The soundfile is named after the rule number. The spacetime images show the evolution of 2000 generations in 10 chunks of 200 generations with a system size of 150 cells. The entire piece can be downloaded as a zip file containing the GIF's and AIF's -> here
!** As these soundfiles were rendered directly from the CA they are !EXTREMELY LOUD! and have not been subject to any post processing, so you are advised to begin listening with the volume control at a very low level **!
All the images and soundfiles where generated with Mathematica.
